Course Schedule
This advanced fashion course is usually made up of 5 x 90 min sessions run over 5 consecutive weeks.
Session 1 — Corset Pattern Drafting & Draping
Your journey begins with an introduction to corsetry design and structure. In this 90-minute session, you will learn how to drape a corset directly onto the mannequin, shaping and sculpting the form to create a flattering, structured silhouette.
You will explore panel placement, balance, and fit, gaining an understanding of how a corset contours the body. By the end of this session, you will have created your own draped corset foundation.
Session 2 — Transforming Your Drape into a Flat Pattern
In this session, you will translate your three-dimensional drape into a precise paper pattern. You’ll learn how to carefully remove, true, and refine your pieces to ensure accuracy and symmetry.
This step is essential. Your pattern becomes a reusable template that can be adapted and developed for future designs, forming the foundation of your corsetry practice.
Homework — Preparing Your Fabric
Ahead of your next session, you will select your chosen fabric and cut all outer and lining pieces using your completed pattern.
This stage allows you to become confident in handling your materials and prepares you for efficient construction in the studio.
Session 3 — Constructing the Corset Panels
You will begin assembling your corset by pinning and sewing your panels together with precision. Emphasis will be placed on clean seam finishes and professional pressing techniques to achieve a polished result.
During this session, you will also map out your boning channels, ensuring structure and support are thoughtfully planned.
Session 4 — Boning & Lacing Construction
This session brings structure to life. You will cut, prepare, and insert your boning, learning how to create a corset that holds its shape while remaining wearable.
You will also construct your lacing panels, developing the functional backbone of your corset and understanding how tension and fit are controlled.
Session 5 — Finishing & Final Details
In your final session, your corset is brought to completion. You will attach your lacing panels, set your grommets, and refine all finishing details.
You will also have the opportunity to personalise your piece with decorative elements, allowing your design identity to come through. By the end of the course, you will leave with a fully constructed corset and the skills to recreate and evolve your design independently.
